Born in 1932 in Shafter, Texas, to Emedes Sr. and Marcela Contreras, Emedes grew up with a strong will, unwavering determination, and a deep devotion to his family and friends. He was fun-loving and a bit of a troublemaker from the beginning until the very end. He fondly recalled his childhood in Shafter as the happiest days of his life.
In 1961, Emedes met his soulmate, Luisa Estela, during her visit to family in El Paso. They married that same year, beginning an extraordinary 63-year journey of love and devotion that inspired everyone who knew them. Together, they built a life centered on their family and each other.
As a father, Emedes was unwavering in his dedication to his three children, instilling in them the importance of education, strength, and independence. Whether cheering from the sidelines at their school sports games or celebrating their academic achievements, he was their biggest fan. Beyond his role as a father, he found immense joy in his love for golf, spending countless hours on the course with friends and family.
Emedes proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. After his service, he dedicated over three decades to the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1998. Retirement brought the joy of watching his four grandchildren grow up, playing baseball, volleyball, basketball, and soccer, and going on to graduate from college. In recent years, his two great-grandchildren brought him immense happiness, whether through Facetime chats or special moments shared on his Aura frame, where he lovingly asked them for kisses.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Luisa, his three children: Beto Contreras (Rosie), Hilda Galvan (Mike), and Zulema Carrillo (Victor); his four adoring grandchildren: Justin Galvan, Marissa Culpepper, Brianna Flores, and Brandon Contreras; and his two precious great-grandchildren: James Cecil Culpepper and Julian Anthony Flores; his brother Edward, and his sisters Nina and Elisa.
