It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Erica Vanessa Ruiz, age 43, of El Paso, Texas, on June 25, 2025. A cherished mother, dedicated veteran, and passionate motorcycle enthusiast, she leaves behind a legacy of courage, love, and adventure.
Born on November 28, 1981, Vanessa embraced life with open arms. She answered the call of service, joining the U.S. Army and rising to become a respected drill sergeant and nurse. Her service was marked by strength, discipline, and unwavering devotion to her fellow soldiers and country.
Among her greatest joys was raising her beloved daughter, Elianna. A devoted mother, Vanessa instilled in her child the values she held most dear—bravery, resilience, and compassion. Family was everything to her, and she loved fiercely and unconditionally.
Vanessa’s love for motorcycles was legendary. Whether cruising the open road or attending local bike rallies, she found freedom in the roar of the engine and the wind in her hair. Friends recall her lighting up at the sight of fellow riders, always ready with a smile and a wave. Her motorcycle passion became a bridge to community, camaraderie, and joy.
In recent months, she faced a courageous battle with cancer. Though her health declined, her spirit remained unbroken. The Borderland community rallied in support—hosting a heartwarming drive-by parade of cars, classic rides, and motorcycles—that brought moments of joy and solidarity to Vanessa during her hospice care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer St, El Paso, TX 79904.
Vanessa’s life was defined by service, adventure, and unconditional love—for her daughter, her community, and every fearless ride. Her memory lives on in the roads she traveled, the hearts she touched, and the spirit of freedom she embodied. Family and friends are invited to share condolences, memories, and stories in the guestbook, to light a candle in her honor, or to send flowers to the funeral home.
Vanessa’s journey may have ended, but her legacy of courage and kindness endures. May she ride on, beyond this world, free as the wind.
