

Dr. Ernest Howard Holt passed on to his eternal life on October 8, 2015 at 88 years old. Howard was born in London, England March 26, 1927 to Ernest & Margaret Cohen. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London. In 1954, Howard immigrated to the USA to do post-doctoral work and be an instructor at MIT. He married Lois Chorlian at Park Street Church Boston September 8, 1956. They began their marriage at the University of Illinois, where he was an associate professor of electrical engineering. In 1958, he became a professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. His book, Foundations of Plasma Dynamics, was published in 1965. Due to Lois’s poor health, they moved to El Paso in 1968. He was the director of the Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range, retiring in 1991. Howard was a member at First Presbyterian Church where Lois was the organist. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Constance Cohen(England), three children: Elizabeth Holt(El Paso), Timothy Holt(Michigan), and James Holt(Kenya). His grandchildren are Anna Dawson(Matt from Ohio), Jeffrey Holt & Jenna Holt(Michigan). He passed away in his home surrounded by his wife and three children.
