Eugene Anderson passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 26, 2017. Gene was born in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1924 but grew up in El Paso, Texas. After losing his father at age 13, he and his brother and sister supported their mother and he helped put himself and his siblings through college. He was commissioned in the Army Air Force from 1944 to 1945 as a second lieutenant where he developed a lifelong passion for flying. He started his very successful State Farm agency back when there was nothing between him and Austin but a rate book. He served his policyholders for 38 years. His membership at the El Paso Country Club allowed him to enjoy golfing and socializing with friends. He was also active in the Del Norte Club and the Daedalians. Always supportive of his family and friends, he enjoyed horseback riding, traveling with friends and family, and flying his beloved Bellanca. Highly skilled in working with his hands, he enjoyed repairing automobiles, woodworking and building radio-controlled airplanes. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ann Gumaer Anderson, his daughter, Mary Ann Anderson Cruger, his sister, Katherine Anderson, and his brother, Sheldon Anderson. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn ( Kay ) Nowell and her husband, Gene, and his grandson, Colin Kelley. The family is grateful for his wonderful caregivers, Marty Hallberg and her staff. Gene will be missed for his wisdom and sense of humor by all who loved him.
