passed away on March 7, 2026 in Denton, Texas. She was graduated from Austin High School in 1948. In 1951 she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in mathematics and in
1965 a Master of Education Degree from Texas Western College, now UTEP.
In 1985 Evelyn received the Gold Nugget Award from the UTEP College of Education. In 1987 she received the Golden Gazelle Award from the Project on Equal Education Rights for outstanding contributions to promote educational equity.
She retired in 1989 after 30 years with the Ysleta Independent School District having been a mathematics teacher, mathematics supervisor, Director of Secondary Education and Assistant
Superintendent. She was also involved with the UTEP Mother/Daughter Program, the YWCA’s Project Redirection, and Ysleta Girls Count program. After retirement, Evelyn served on
various boards including the Mental Health Association of El Paso, the Paso Del Norte YWCA, and the UTEP Woman’s Auxiliary.
Mrs. Bell was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Roger S. Bell, daughter Sandra Peters (John), sister Carol Sue Davenport and brother Raymond Wilson Davenport, Jr. She is survived by daughters Susan Evans (David), Sally Turley and Shirley Baird, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery on March 23, 2026 at 11:00 am.
