

Filiberta “Bertha” Cortinas, 86, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015, surrounded by family. Bertha was born on June 10, 1928 in Socorro, Texas and resided in El Paso for her adult life. She was preceded by her husband of 28 years, Ricardo Cortinas Sr., her parents, and brothers. She is survived by siblings, Mary Cortinas, and Pedro Zavala and her children: Jamie Ortega, Alice Bock, Ricardo Cortinas Jr., Luis Cortinas (Celia Cortinas), Susana Nichols, Delia Gutierrez (Javier Gutierrez), Teresa Martinez (Ken Martinez). Bertha is survived by grandchildren; Lisa-Beth, Eric, JJ, Michael, Ernie, Jeffrey, Ricardo III, Lisa-Marie, Rene, Kathryn, Valerie, Melanie, Michelle, Joshua Ricardo, Kristopher, Kendrick, Christian, Steven, Marc; great grandchildren, Ryan, Logan, AJ, Mya, Paul, Nieko, Savannah Rose, Ka-la, Faith, Raul, Nicholas, Michael, Nicholas, Matthew, Haliegh, Sophia, Noah, David, Jennifer, Jayden, Layla; and her great-great grandchildren, Jameson and Jaiden. Bertha volunteered her time as a Catechist, Eucharistic minister, and managed church store and kitchen activities at Santo Niño Jesus de Atocha in El Paso. She also received numerous awards for her volunteer work with public schools. Visitation: Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 5-9pm with Vigil at 7:00 pm, at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N Carolina. Funeral Mass: Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 9:30 am, at St. Pius X Catholic Church on 1050 N Clark Street. Bertha will be buried alongside her husband at Mount Carmel Cemetery 401 S. Zaragoza Rd.
