Frances Angela Mielock White passed away peacefully on December 17, 2014. She was born January 7, 1925 to Edward M. Mielock and Anna Sands Mielock. Growing up in the Detroit area she attended Immaculata High School at Mary Grove University. After graduating in 1942 she immediately started contributing to the war effort by joining the much needed work force in the area. After various jobs gaining experience, she joined Dearborn Motors where she remained until marriage. During the war years she was active in various organizations supporting soldiers.
She met her future husband through a blind date arranged by a mutual friend and her brother, all of whom were attending the University of Detroit. The date was William Cotter White from El Paso, Texas who was studying for a degree in Architectural Engineering. The romance continued long distance culminating in her visit to El Paso with her family. They were married August 12, 1950 in Detroit.
The move to El Paso was not easy for Frances, different climate, culture and little green vegetation. With the help of her husband’ sisters, as well as his friends, she slowly became acclimated. The family started to grow and she became active in PTA’s at St. Patrick’s grade school, Loretto Academy and Jesuit High School. She was always home when the children returned from school. She led a devout and spiritual life as a member of the Catholic Church, was active in the St. Patrick’s Altar society for many years, and joined the Rebecca Circle after moving to Queen of Peace Parish. Other activities include membership in Junior and Senior Women’s Clubs, Ladies of Charity, Christ Child Society, Mission Hills Garden Club, Drive a Meal and the El Paso Tennis Club.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Edward M. Mielock Jr. and sister Anne Marie Brashear, survived by daughter Christine Cummins (Jim), son Cotter White Jr. and Melissa O’Rourke, son Bruce (Susie), grandchildren Kelly Cordero (Pete), Cotter White III partner (Elvia), Justin Cummins (Hilary), Tyler Cummins; sister-in-law Kathleen Mielock and numerous nieces and nephews.
