George was 1965 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, and a 1969 graduate of Denison University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with The First Cavalry in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Cluster and the Combat Infantry Badge. George worked for Packard Electric Division of General Motors and Delphi Automotive for 30 years, ending his career as Director of Ohio Operations. In Warren, George was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he was a server and volunteered on many committees. He coached youth baseball and softball, and was an active swim parent at Warren Olympic Club, where he served as president of the board of directors. He volunteered in many capacities for United Way, including chairing the Trumbull County fundraising campaign. George was an avid golfer throughout his life and treasured the relationships he developed through the sport. He played with many leagues and groups, and especially enjoyed the Hillbilly Invitational and Berry Creek Member Guest tournaments, where he looked forward to takin his competitors’ money. After his retirement to El Paso, his time was spent with his family in Ohio and Texas, and with his many golf buddies, including his children and grandchildren. He was a member of The Ridge United Methodist Church. George is survived by his wife Cathy and his children Christy Connor (Fiona) and George Chestnut III (Roberta). Grandchildren Adrian Hernandez, George Chestnut IV, Ethan Chestnut, Clare Dolan, Dylan Kuntz and Hayden Connor- Kuntz survive. Brother Jim Chestnut (Leonor) and sisters Debbie Budd (John) and Sally Scarbrough (Chuck) and many nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lorene Chestnut.
