She graduated from El Paso High School and Texas Western College of Mines in 1942 and was honored to have been named the oldest alum in 2018 and 2019. She was named to Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges. She taught in the El Paso Public Schools system for 27 years; most at Putnam Elementary, from where she retired.
She was a member of the UTEP Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma; Eta Kappa Chapter, UTEP Alumni, the El Paso Historical Society, AAUW, the Ladies of Charity and the Ladies Guild at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Gloria enjoyed playing bridge, Mah Jongg and participating in Bible Study.
She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Jovita Armijo, her sisters Genoveva Gonzalez, Mary Esther Licon, Rebecca Nave and her brothers Jesus, Filiberto and Ignacio Gonzalez.
She is survived by her four daughters Gloria Robles Ray, Georgina Riddle, Rebecca Robles and Virginia Robles; nephew Nicholas R. Nave, grandchildren Morgan and Ryan Riddle and Cristina and Sydney Ray; and many nephews and nieces.
Her father’s family (the Armijos), was among the early settlers of New Mexico and made their home in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Gloria loved her country, her heritage, the state of Texas (and all the state’s sports teams), the city of El Paso and its beautiful landscape and the Franklin Mountains.
She loved the arts and sports – from frequenting the El Paso Opera to cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, Notre Dame and the UTEP Miners.
Above all, Gloria loved her Creator, her family and her church. God’s light shone through her every action and every encounter. To know Gloria was to know Christ’s love.
