It is with deep sorrow that we announce Hector Martin Maldonado M.D., PhD passed away, surrounded by family on April 1st, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on September 15, 1949, in Juarez, MX to Rafaela Maldonado and Bibiano Maldonado. He was known by many names such as Hector, Martin, and Doctor.
Hector (Martin) spent much of this time in pursuit of education, which sent him to live in many places. From Juarez, he moved to Mexico City to attend UNAM, followed by a fellowship at Cambridge University in England, UCLA in Los Angeles, a neurosurgical residency at John Hopkins in Baltimore, and finishing at Texas Tech in Lubbock. He finally settled in El Paso, Texas where he started his private practice. He completed his educational journey with both PhD and M.D. Hector (Martin) enjoyed music, playing the guitar, traveling, trying new food and wine, golfing, biking, racquetball, chess, learning new languages, and being surrounded by friends and loved ones. He loved to learn and was knowledgeable in many topics from astronomy to art to history and culture.
Hector (Martin) was beloved by many across the El Paso community, dedicating 32 years of his life to its’ people as a Neurologist. He was a dedicated physician who loved caring for his patients, treating them with empathy and compassion. He was more than a doctor to his patients, considered a friend by many. He was an excellent physician who was respected and loved by all his colleagues. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, filling any room with laughter and joy. Hector (Martin) spent much of his life working to provide a future for his children and family. He will be greatly missed, and his loss will be felt by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Marie Maldonado and their son Martin, his daughters Helena and Kora (Gilberto), Grandchildren Teo and Maya, brothers Chome and Ramon, sister Cuca, and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers Javier, Pepe, Chava, and Armando.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N Resler Dr. The Funeral Mass will be held on April 11, 2025, at 10:30am, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere St., El Paso, Tx, 79912. Interment will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana Avenue.
