On February 24, our beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor passed away at home into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father surrounded by her children. She was 98. Hope was born in El Paso,Tx to immigrant parents Juan and Adoracion Rubi; one of six. She was a woman of great strength, faith, love and was the rock of the family. She always helped where she could and when she was asked. This would be her defining persona throughout her life. During the depression years, she took a job to help her family and sacrificed her high school education. The job was with the Wilkie family who had their granddaughter , Sandra Day , with them. Mom was her nanny from age 2-6. Sandra Day would later become Sandra Day O’Connor, who became a Chief Justice for the SCOTUS. Mom also worked for the Aaronson Brothers for many decades managing Jeans Hosiery Shop. In 1948, she married her beloved husband Alfred Benitez, whom she was married to for 45 years before his passing. She was a wonderful wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, confidant and friend to all who knew her. She was an extraordinary gardener who loved flowers, especially roses and always maintained a beautiful landscape. And not to be forgotten, all her little doggies who accompanied her , especially her last three, Duchess, Princess and Baily.
Hope is survived by her children Alfred Mark Benitez and Elizabeth Ann Deaner, grandchildren Jacqueline Deaner- Rivera and Michael Todd Deaner, her last surviving sibling Martha Cervantes and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks and gratitude to Bien Vivir and the entire staff, including Dr Vandshekari, and her caregivers, Emma Garcia and Angie Macias. A special, heartfelt thanks to the St Raphael Parish Community, and the Catholic Daughters of America for their love and compassion shown over the years to our “mom” and to our neighbors and special friends in Cielo Vista Park .
