Hortensia V. Mesta

Hortensia Valverde Mesta of El Paso passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home on May 13, 2022. Born in el Sauz Chihuahua October 30, 1930, she lived a few years in Arizona before moving back to her hometown as a young girl. She then moved to Juarez Mexico where she met and married our father Jesus Manuel Mesta who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister Gerarda Valverde. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where she volunteered tirelessly for many years. She never started her day or embarked on any journey without invoking the Lord and always giving thanks for his blessings. She was the embodiment of hard work always willing to help anybody who needed it. She was devoted to her family and one of her greatest joys was family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. She was a foster parent for many years and many of her foster children kept in touch with her long after they left her care. She loved nature and plants, was an avid gardener and enjoyed daily evening walks. She is survived by her brother Guillermo Valverde, Children Baltazar Mesta, Beatriz Mesta-Tarango, Carolina Carruth, Hortensia Mesta-Smith, Jesus Manuel Mesta II, Gaspar Mesta, Monica Madrid, twenty grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday May 21 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with a recitation of the rosary at 9:00 AM, Mass at 10:00 AM followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
