After graduating from Irvin High School, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army following in the footsteps of his father, Lane. Achieving the rank of SP5 Combat Engineer, Wayne built bridges and operated heavy equipment. After serving in VietNam, Wayne became a woodworker and craftsman working for Scheindig Art Gallery creating custom mattes and frames. Later, he worked as a self employed craftsman creating both small and large pieces from wood. Wayne also worked in construction and remodeling as a finish carpenter.
Howard Wayne Clifton was predeceased by his parents, Lane and Dorothy Clifton. He is survived by his only brother, Edward Ritchie Clifton; one niece Elaine Clifton; four great-nieces and nephews, Ritchie, Savannah, Raeleen and Aiden; and a great-great-niece and nephew.
Graveside service with Military Honors for Howard will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79906.
