Ino Marie Collins, 90, took the hand of her risen Savior and followed His footsteps into the presence of the Father on September 17, 2024. Marie was born in Lubbock on January 16, 1934, to Felix and Dora (Varnhagen) Goebel. She married Bobby Collins of Plainview, Texas, on June 22, 1955, who preceded her in death on June 27, 2013.
She is survived by her children: Robert Collins and wife Lisa, Terri Snoddy and husband Sam, Sheri Mitchell, and David Collins and wife Marisol. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Andrew, Nicole, Aaron, Micah, Alyssa, and Callie; and seven great-grandchildren.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Dora Goebel, her brother Rodney Goebel, and her brother Ben “Spikey” Goebel. She is survived by her sister, Felicia Elliott of Houston.
Marie was born and raised on a cotton farm in Abernathy, north of Lubbock, and graduated from New Deal High School in 1951. In 1955, she earned her degree in Education from Texas Technological College, now known as Texas Tech University.
She was a respected elementary school teacher for over 30 years and retired from the El Paso Independent School District. Over the years, many of her former students recognized her and expressed their gratitude for the lasting impact she had on their lives.
She was a beloved mother and devoted wife of 56 years. Throughout her life, she touched countless lives—through the unconditional love she gave her family and the unwavering dedication she brought to her years of teaching. Her compassion, generosity, sharp wit, and enduring grace will be forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 26th, at 11:30 AM at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 4710 Hercules Avenue, El Paso, TX 79904, with a visitation starting at 10:30 AM.
A private interment will follow immediately.
