

James “JR” Reyes Jr., 71, passed away due to stroke complications on December 1, 2025, at Providence Hospital in El Paso, TX.
He was born on April 18, 1954, in Austin, the son of James Reyes and Cora “Socorro” Saldana Reyes. James graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1972 and then from Southwest Texas State with a degree in Mathematics in 1976.
Prior to graduation, he went to work with the U.S. Army White Sands Missile Range, El Paso TX. Over the years, James “JR” received many Certificates of Achievements, Certificates of Promotion, Suggestion Award Certificates, Commendations, Letters of Appreciation, Letters of Commendations, Certificates of Recognition, and Years of Services Awards from White Sands and the Department of the Army. He retired as a Computer Scientist in September 2025 and received a Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for his 50 years of service.
James “JR” was a kind and intelligent man who often kept to himself, yet he was always willing to help others when needed. This was shown by his being an organ donor. He was dearly loved by his family and those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents and other family members.
He is survived by his siblings, Alice Carney of College Station; Micheala “Mickey” Park of Waco; Gloria Hastings and husband Mike of Austin; Rick Reyes of Killeen; Sam Reyes of Austin; and nieces and nephews (Cathleen Carney and Mike Jimenez; David Carney Jr; Heather Cornelius and husband Hugh; Robert Dale Park and wife Lela; Gary Park and wife Becky; Lisa McDaniel and husband Paul; Victoria Kramer and husband Matthew; Laurie Carter and husband David; Robert James Reyes and wife Belinda; and Mathew Howard) and great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
