Jeanette, the oldest of four children, was born on February 06, 1933 to Cletus and Winnie Stogner in the panhandle town of Hedley, Texas.
After graduating Clarendon High School, Jeanette went on to attend and graduate from Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Library Science. She worked as a librarian at Seagraves High School until 1957, when she married Gene W. Green in Amarillo, TX. She spent the remainder of her years as a homemaker and housewife.
Gene and Jeanette had 3 children while in Amarillo (James, and then Joe and Jerry) . After the twins were born in 1961, Gene’s career path took the family to Albuquerque, NM for 6 years and then to El Paso in 1968, where they lived out the rest of their years.
In the 1970s Jeanette joined her siblings and other relatives in developing an interest in bird watching. This began a lifelong hobby and was something she enjoyed a great deal. Many of the trips that Gene and Jeanette took revolved around bird watching locations. No matter where she was, Jeanette always took note of the local bird life and could identify many birds just by their songs.
Jeanette was one of the kindest people you could meet. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and she always gave people the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes her grandkids would try to stir her up and the best they could get out of her was “That’s nice.” The worst thing you might hear from her about the problems of the day would be “I don’t know why people act like that.” She loved doing puzzles and playing card games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the children loved it as well.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene W. Green, brother, Herald Winfred Stogner, aunt, Audrey Ayers, mother, Winnie (Stogner) Wester and her father Cletus Ward Stogner.
She is survived by her three sons, James Walter, Joe Carroll, and Jerry Lynn; a grandson, James D. Green, a granddaughter, Jennifer Viray, and three great-grandchildren (Aeris, Aiden, and Jeremy). Sadly, she passed a few weeks before welcoming her newest great-grandson Santiago.
There will be no public service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to a local hospice care organization in her name.
Jeanette and her kindness and optimism will be greatly missed.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hillcrestfuneralhomeeast.com for the Green family.
