John Ciaramitaro, 79, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025. John was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts surrounded by the strong Italian traditions and family spirit that shaped the man he became.
In his youth, he worked alongside his father in the fisheries and later in Italian bakeries throughout Boston’s North End. These early experiences instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for hard work- and good food. Once an adult, John was drafted into the United States Army and served his country. Never one to follow a predictable path, John traveled from Boston to the Southwest. It was in El Paso, Texas, that he met the love of his life, Cheri, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with devotion, humor, and adventure.
Falling in love with the beauty of the Southwest, John found joy working with cactus and desert plants. His passion turned into a calling, and he eventually owned and operated a successful landscaping company for many years. His work was a passion and a showcase for his artistic talents.
John was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; his mother, Lillian; and his beloved daughter, Sarah. He is survived by his wife, Cheri; his three sons, Adam, Eric (Rosalind), and John; his granddaughters Samantha; and his grandsons Lexi and Julian. He was lucky to meet and fish with many grandchildren and great grandchildren on the east coast. His surviving siblings, Phyllis (Paul) and Joseph, along with nieces and nephews, have always been close and a part of John’s life in El Paso.
A fishman at heart, John’s love for the outdoors began in childhood- so much so that he would sometimes skip school just to go ice fishing. His last few decades spent boating and fishing on favorite lake Elephant Butte. He will be remembered as a gruff man with a tender core, a big and loveable presence whose humor, strength, and loyalty defined him.
John’s memory will live on in the family he cherished, the landscapes he shaped, and the countless stories he leaves behind.
Memorial contributions can be made to Animal Rescue League of El Paso.
John was cremated on November 13, 2025. A celebration of life is planned for December 13th, 1-4 PM at Los 3 Gallegos Restaurant.
