

José Villescas, husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away suddenly in his home on November 25, 2015. He was 74. José was born in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Burges High School in 1959. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1966. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Vilma Quintana Villescas. They were married 47 years. José was passionate and dedicated to his profession. He was the recipient of several awards including the “Bowl of Hygeia” which he received in 1999. José volunteered and was dispatched as the Pharmacist for the Salvation Army Medical Disaster Team responding to the 1985 Mexico City earthquakes where he established a make-shift pharmacy in a church. He was designated, by unanimous vote, Disaster Team spokesman due to his bilingual and bicultural abilities. His career spanned almost 50 years. José was a columnist for the El Paso Times from 1992-2002, artist, carpenter, photographer, bibliophile, jazz aficionado, humanitarian, and incredible family man. His deep faith in God, his tremendous love for his community, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends made him the outstanding man that he was.He was preceded in death by his parents, José G. Villescas and Elvira Villescas. He is survived by his wife, Vilma Villescas, his three children, Nicole Villescas, Yvonne Villescas, Joseph Villescas and his wife Malyssa Villescas, and his three grandchildren, Jack Beall, Jackson Villescas and Vivianne Villescas. He is survived by his four siblings, Carlos Villescas, Rosa Maria Natividad, Tom Villescas, and Gilbert Villescas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Monday November 30th from 5:00-9:00 PM, with a vigil at 7:00 PM, at Hillcrest Funeral Home on 1060 N. Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915.
