Josefina Esperanza De La Cruz

Josefine De La Cruz, Fina was the daughter of Francisco & Anita Grijalva, a pioneer family from San Elizario, TX. She was born October 28, 1924 and passed away on July 26, 2017 at the age of 92. She was also known as Josie, Abuela & Grandma Sina. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Irene, grandson Toby Jr., and by her husband’s Tony Trujillo Jr., Carmel Lara and Jose De La Cruz. She is survived by her children: Toby, Silvie (Isabel), Lillian (Hector Peregrino), Mary Ann (Adan Dominguez) & Victor Lara. She had 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, and sisters: Rosa Chavez and Kathy Ponce. Fina left school after 8th grade to take care of her younger siblings. There were 15 children and she was the oldest girl. Fina started out working as a store clerk then a butcher and later a cashier. She also sold fireworks and then gambled away her earning in Las Vegas. Fina loved life, Bingo, playing Poker (did not have a poker face!), going to casinos, Mariachis and dancing. She was a great cook and loved to time herself on her meals. She took care of her ill daughter Irene for over 40 years and took care of her first mother-in-law Neni for 8 years until Neni passed. She learned to dialyze Irene at home and helped her recover from numerous medical conditions. The family is grateful to CIMA Hospice for the great care they took of Fina and for their promptness to all our requests. Pallbearers will be Silvie Trujillo, Hector Peregrino, Efrain Grijalva Jr., George Gomez, Michael Grijalva & Francisco Grijalva III. Honorary Pallbearers will be Toby Trujillo and Victor Lara. Visitation will be Sunday, July 30,2017 from 5-9 pm at San Elizario Catholic Church with a Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10 am at San Elizario Catholic Church.
