JUAN GUADALUPE “LUPILLO” VELOZ ZUNIGA passed away on January 28, 2026, at the age of 69 years, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and nicknames that stuck whether you wanted them to or not. If you knew Lupillo, chances are you didn’t go by your given name for long – and somehow, the nickname fit perfectly.
Known for his easygoing nature, Lupillo enjoyed simple pleasures: good conversation – often filled with playful teasing that left everyone laughing alongside him - a cigarette, a drink, and playing the guitar and singing with the people he cared about most.
Lupillo was born in Juarez, Mexico on June 24, 1956. After moving to the U.S, for many years, he took pride and drove countless miles working as a truck driver and loved his time on the road. On November 4, 1976, he married Maria De Los Angeles Garcia in El Paso, TX.
More than anything he will be remembered for his humor and always ready to sing a song with his guitar. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Juan Jr. (Cece), Rita (Homer), Monica (Fernando), Samuel (Vanessa), David, and his fiancée Vanessa; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Margarita “Mage”, Isabel “Chavela”, Lucy “Guera”; brothers Francisco “Kiko”, Maximiano “Manchi”, Antonio “Tony”; as well as numerous relatives and friends who will forever answer to the names Lupillo gave them. Lupillo was predeceased by his father Roman; mother Rita; sisters Sabina, Maria Del Refugio, Zenaida, Josefina “Pepa”, brothers Natividad “Nati’, Refugio “Kuka”, Eduardo, and Arturo.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on February 6, 2026, at Hillcrest Funeral Home from 5-7 pm, followed by a Rosary. Cremation will take place following these services.
