Larry Lee Back was born in Jackson, Kentucky in 1951 to Ira and Doris Back. He grew up in the hills of Kentucky and graduated from Breathitt County High School before joining the Army. His service eventually brought him to El Paso, Texas in the 1970s, a place that would become his home for the rest of his life.
It was in El Paso that he met Lorena (Cuevas) Back, and together they built a family with their two children, James and Heather. Larry spent more than 45 years in El Paso, building friendships, raising his kids, and carving out a life rooted in hard work and quiet resilience.
After completing his Army service, Larry drove trucks for more than two decades. He loved the road—the long stretches of highway, the peace of being out on his own, and the comfort of George Strait playing through the speakers. He was a loyal Kentucky Wildcats fan and someone who always had a soft spot for animals. Especially his beloved dog Buu Lee Back.
Larry is survived by his children, James Back and Heather Back-Lopez; and by his son-in-law, Robert C. Lopez, with whom he shared a bond as deep and steady as any father and son.
He is also survived by his sisters, Katherine, Ada Jane, and Anita, as well as many nieces and nephews
