Leonard Richard Tanner

Leonard Richard Tanner was born September 24, 1921, in Cuthand, TX. Leonard professed his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 12, 1973 in Harlingen, TX. Leonard went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2021 at 99-1/2 years young, peacefully in his sleep from his home in Canutillo, Texas.

Leonard served his country World War II in the 1045th Army Air Forces Base Unit as a surgical technician. Battles and Campaigns: Rome Arno, Southern France; Air Combat Balkans in Greece; PO Valley, Italy; North Apennines, Italy; Central Europe, Rhineland Germany; Northern France, EAME Campaign Metal with 8 Bronze Stars.

After his honorable discharge in 1945 from the Army Air Forces, he went to work for the Corp of Engineers in Colorado. He returned to Texas to work for the International Boundary and Water Commission in the Rio Grande Valley and El Paso, TX. During which time, he became a Texas Registered Public Land Surveyor. He retired from IBWC in 1980. He then worked for different construction companies in El Paso, TX. In 1983 he worked for Sky Line Engineering in Santa Teresa, NM, until he retired a second time in 2011, at the age of 89.

Leonard is preceded in death by his father, William and his mother Fetta, his brothers Edgar, Woodrow, Roland and his sister, Mary Lou Applebee, Bernice Carter, Alice Foster, Myrtle Schafroth, Gay Brown, Viola Craig and Ethel Stevens.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Patsy; son George Leonard Tanner (Carmen) of Harlingen, TX; daughters Sabrina Conley of El Paso, TX and Saranda Beck (Leonard) of El Paso, TX; Nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation April 8, 2021, 10:00am-11:30am; Celebration of Life 11:30am at Martin Funeral Home West, El Paso, Texas; Private interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
