A lifelong resident of El Paso, Lulu was born to Eulalio and Ramona Hernandez. She dedicated herself to the service of others, earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from El Paso Community College. Her compassionate nature led her to a career as a personal care attendant, where she was known for the deep care and dignity she provided to her patients.
Lulu’s heart for service began early in life as a volunteer candy striper at R.E. Thomason General Hospital. Most recently, she was a devoted volunteer with the El Paso Visually Impaired and Blind Experience (VIBE). Outside of her work, Lulu found joy in the simple beauties of life: the color purple, sunflowers, and the company of her dogs—especially her precious Oreo.
Lulu is survived by her devoted husband, George Zavala. She leaves behind a large and loving family, including her sisters, Luisa Vargas (Gilberto) and Lidia Garman (David); her brother, Abel Hernandez; and her nieces and nephews: Andy Vargas, Ailene Vargas (Debbie Ledesma), Damien Garman, Haley Bosa Garman (Edwin), Samantha Tellez (Francisco), Jessica Guzman (Nick), Crystal Avalos (Nick), April Hernandez(Lamar), Jazmine Hernandez, and Juan Hernandez. She was a proud great-aunt to Nova, Nathan, Gideon, Brandon, Natalie, Benjamin, Julian, Ezra, Sophia, Jonathan, Isaiah, McKenzie, and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Eulalio and Ramona Hernandez, and her niece, Ashley Garman.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Martin Funeral Home East, located at 1460 George Dieter Dr., El Paso, TX 79936. A reception will take place from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
