It's never too late to remember a great human being and doctor. I was his patient between 1986 and 1992, and thanks to his care, I became a doctor. I live in Mexico City. May Hashem always watch over him.

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of the passing of my friend and colleague, Dr. Lyn Mansfield, I am uploading an interview of him from 2020. Ernest Armstrong

Just saw this.  Dr. Mansfield oversaw my daughter’s care while in the Aimmune Peanut Clinical trial.  We quickly came to admire is intellect and his gentle care with her during the couple years we saw him.  He went on to also help her tolerate eggs in addition to peanuts.  We will forever be grateful to him for his generosity.  He leaves behind an awesome legacy, not only in his family and his work, but also in how he treated others with respect and kindness.  He will be missed!  

I just learned of Dr Mansfield’s passing. I will always remember him as a kind & caring person who stood for what was right even when it was not easy. We had fun times in TX and HI over the years and he always kept patients first!!

I will miss him dearly & keep Randee & the family in my thoughts & prayers. 

Dear Randee & family:  The Texas Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society (TAAIS) was very sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Mansfield.  He served on the TAAIS Board of Directors in Position 1 from 2008-2010 and then in Position 3 from 2011-2013 and 2013-2015.  He was such a strong advocate for patients with allergies, asthma and immunologic diseases.  I did two allergy meetings with Dr. Mansfield in El Paso and he was always so kind to me.  He will be missed.  On behalf of the TAAIS Board of Directors, please accept our sincerest condolences.

Lyndon was a friend, mentor, researcher, caring physician, colleague and an overall great guy. I have many fond memories of Lyndon that make me smile when I think of them. For example, I can hear him say to me entering the room “how are you doing boychik?” I remember standing with him at a meeting in Prague and he turned around and asked me point blank “ do you want to takeover Chairman of Allergists for Israel from me” which I accepted and continue to this day. We are co-authors on publications, spent much time together at professional meetings, on committees and always had wonderful conversations. He loved his wife Randee dearly and his children and grandchildren.  He was a consummate family man.  Lyndon was one of a kind and will genuinely be missed. Rest In Peace my friend. We are so sorry for your loss and want you to know you and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.  Dr. Mansfield was always a great Miner supporter and someone who cared about our players and gave of his time, talent and treasure supporting the UTEP community. Dear Randee and family,
             I was shocked  and dismayed about Lyn's death--he was so much of an active person  dedicated  to helping the rest of the human race which he did as a clinician, teacher and researcher, and genuinely contributing  to all  without stopping.  It is already difficult to believe he has stopped in action, but certainly not in memory.
As you know, my relationship with Lyn began in Denver over a half century ago. From the beginning Lyn was respected and appreciated,  and I always enjoyed seeing him over these many years in the many places we both met.

He was a pioneer of food allergies, and the world is a better place for his courage. 

Lyn has been a colleague and friend for almost 44 years, since our days together in Denver. His exceptional intellect and energy and his big heart were his trademarks and will be his legacy. It has been my pleasure, Lyn. Godspeed.

Lyn Mansfield was my mentor, my colleague, and my friend.  
In 1980 I went to do my Allergy rotation in a World War II vintage building down the hill from the Medical Center.  The building was unimpressive.  LTC Mansfield, on the other hand, was the most enthusiastic, energetic teacher I ever had.  
The year I finished residency, I was tasked to take over the Pediatric Pulmonary Clinic.  Being a little nervous about that, I had this great idea.  I moved the Pulmonary clinic down to the Allergy Clinic where I could use the spirometer, and more importantly, the Allergist.  Lyn had one condition – I had to help with a research project he was doing.  Somewhere in the middle of that, I gave in and applied for an Allergy Fellowship.
The Army sent me to northern Germany.  Lyn sent me the raw data from our study and told me to write it up.  The next thing I knew I was first author of a study in the Annals of Allergy.  That looked pretty good on my allergy fellowship application.  While I was still stationed in Germany the Army had me return to El Paso for 2 weeks.  Lyn found out I was coming and brought me a spare car he had sitting around.  He figured I’d need a car, he had one, ‘nuff said. 
With lobbying from Lyn, I was accepted to the Allergy Fellowship.  I got to train in Denver in one of the most respected Allergy training programs anywhere.  Yeah, that was where Lyn trained too.
When I got out of the Army, I opened a private practice in Corpus Christi and following Lyn’s example, taught Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology to Pediatric residents.  I doubt I was as good as him, but I tried.
I got to spend some time with Lyn on the board of directors and at annual meetings of the Texas Allergy, Asthma Immunology Society.  His dedication to and enthusiasm for our shared specialty never waned.  
Lyn was a dedicated doctor, an enthusiastic teacher, and a wonderful friend.  He was the reason I became an Allergist, and he was a big part of why I was a good one.


My deepest condolences to Lyn's family and to all who were touched by his wisdom and patience.  Lyn was one of the most energetic allergists I have ever had the honor of knowing.  He always stood for what was right in the field of allergy and especially with regards to the health and well being of all his patients.  I respected Lyn because of his enthusiasm for our field and his willingness to work for our profession.  He was one of the most active of allergists for the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the Texas Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society.   Always willing to listen and always willing to provide his wealth of experience.  I will always cherish his friendship and smile.  Thank you Lyn for being there for all of us. 

Lyndon Mansfield was one very special person.  I met Lynn in 1977 during my fellowship at National Jewish when he was on staff at Fitzsimmons Medical Center, and he taught me to write my first immunotherapy prescription.  He was indefatigable in his passion for doing the right thing in medicine and in life, for his patients and for his community.  He and Randee were first supporters of the Allergists for Israel.  He was active in the early meetings of the Aspen Allergy Conference.  He was a leader by example, and an original thinker- such as his contributions and defense of OIT very early on!  May his memory be for a blessing, and may Randee and his loved family be supported by the love of care of those whose lives he touched.  b'shalom, Wm

I had the pleasure of meeting Lyn when I was a fellow and he was presenting some of his early OIT data back in 2007. We stated in touch since then and I had the honor of debating him as well as being able to learn his perspective on a number of allergy issues. He was tremendously kind and patient with who was just a random young fellow at the time, and I was very fortunate to continue to have him as a resource and friend to correspond with over the next 14 years. To a young allergist just starting out, his friendship and wisdom that he passed on to me were beyond valuable. 

He was a special guy, and his place in the field as a pioneer of the practice of oral immunotherapy  (among his other expertise) will not be long forgotten. I will miss his infectious smile and personality tremendously.

Dr. Mansfield was a kindhearted soul and held a huge presence at the JCC in El Paso and all of the Mansfield family is such an integral part of our Jewish and medical community at large. I am saddened by this big loss. My sincere condolences to all. 

First I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to Mrs. Mansfield and family. I have worked for Doc just shy of 30 years and it has been an honor.  He was always very thoughtful and truly a kind person and to be honest drove me crazy sometimes, but I  wouldn't have had it any other way. I  will always miss his infectious smile and laugh. He was such an intelligent person about so many things. He enjoyed teaching the staff not only about asthma and allergy but about life, travel, food and government to name a few. He treated the staff to lunch every Tuesday, but it had to be  Chinese. ♡  He expected excellence,  and that's what we strived for. I told him a couple of times if I ever got to be on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?", he would definitely be my partner.  His presence will be missed by so many.   Cat

Dr. Mansfield's passing is a great loss to his family, friends, and community.  For 30 years he was my business associate, mentor and most of all friend.  He was truly exceptional in that he was such a great scientist and at the same time he was so good with people.   He will be missed.
