Maria Guadalupe Martinez, a vibrant and loving soul, departed this life on October 16, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on May 27, 1931, in El Paso, Texas, she was the cherished daughter of Jose Ayala and Nestora Ojeda.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by all her beloved siblings: Jesus, Rebecca, Josefina, Carlos, Dolores, Refugio, Reyes, Teresa, and Elvira. She also reunited with her adored husband, Marcos Martinez, her daughter Guadalupe Lopez, and her three infant children Arturo, Arturo, and Rosamaria.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Juana Cano, and son-in-law, Frank Cano. Guadalupe was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Eduardo Lopez and his wife Sandra, Jerry Lopez and his wife Sandra, Yolanda Cano, and Rosemary Cano Oliver and her husband Chris. Her family also includes nine great-grandchildren: Eduardo Jr., Marcos, Matthew, Mark, Jerry Jr., Vivian, Jude, Jasper, and Jameson, as well as her great-great-granddaughter, Julia.
Affectionately known as Lupe, she was a beloved Tia, Madrina, friend, and “grandma” to many. Her laughter, warmth, and fiery spirit lit up every room. Lupe was renowned for her storytelling, cooking, and sewing. She often told stories of growing up in “El Ocho,” a ranch in Ft. Hancock, Texas with dirt floors and no running water. Despite her humble beginnings, or maybe due in part because of it, she was incredibly giving and always had an open home to others. In fact, the many people that resided with her and Marcos over the years were vast—they were both unfailingly generous and welcomed others without reservation. Friends and family often flocked to her table, drawn by the aroma of her delicious home-cooked meals, hoping to grab a plate of her infamous huevos rancheros, and to hear the stories she always shared during every gathering. Lupe’s kindness and love for others was always present in the heartfelt preparations that went into her dishes—this gift will be missed beyond measure.
Aside from her cooking, Lupe's talents were evident in the many wedding and Quinceanera dresses she lovingly crafted. Each stitch and hem for any clothing was made with care, reflecting her passion and love for all that walked into her sewing room. Her busy body always had a task at hand and enjoyed any trip to a casino and had the luck to prove it!
Her love was endless and was felt with such passion. Her legacy of love, laughter, selflessness, as well as feisty spirit will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Additionally, the family would like to thank Bienvivir Senior Health for all of their assistance, as well as their employees who provided the best care possible for her.
