Madre, madre, madre mia.  You are so missed.  There is no comfort in this pain.  No hug, no kiss, no sweet embrace.  This reality is raw ravage pain. Depression has set in for all of us.  Depression no pill, or emotional band aide can cure.  We honor you with the tears, the silence and the reverie. All we have left is your inspiration to live this life fully and wholeheartedly. To embrace the love, the pain, the loss. To embrace this thing we called life even if you are not in it. Some say this stage is acceptance.  I'm not sure what this stage is, all I know is that your existence inspires me to be better.  To love harder. And to embrace the love and the pain.

Happy Birthday, Mom.  You would have been 70 this month.  I had planned to throw you a BIG surprise party this year. Life is impermanent.  Life is fragile.  Your death has taught me that we only have today and today I say.  Thank you.  Thank you for being the best mother a woman could ever have.  Thank you for making me strong, for forming my character and for reminding me that for all the times you were hard on me, it was only to prepare me for my journey in life. Thank you for always standing on the higher ground and for showing me what it means to be kind, loving and generous to those who are important to me.  I love you and miss you terribly.  I only hope that one day I will grow accustomed to this constant yearning I have, to have you near.

I basked in you;
I loved you, helplessly, with a boundless tongue-tied love.
And death doesn't prevent me from loving you.

in my opinion you aren't dead.
(I know dead people, and you are not dead.)

It's been exactly six months since you passed. I dreamt of you just the other night. You came home. We embraced and you told me you were okay.  Someday I will find some peace. Someday I will believe you are in a better place.  But I am selfish and still wish you were here to offer a beaming smile and your contagious laugh.  You are loved and missed, Mom.  My world will never be the same.  God bless you.

I still can't believe that you're gone. Gone. How can you be GONE?  As much as I wish you never left me, I hope you've found some peace.  There is no refuge for this grief. There is no consolation. Words fail to express how much I miss you. How I wish I could hear your footsteps walk down the hallway of what once was my home.  You were my home, Mom. And now you are gone.

It has been just over five months and the pain of your loss has changed to a consistent hurt.  I'm so lost without you and it is barely setting in.  This will be the second time I visit El Paso, with you not there and I don't know how I'm going to deal with any of the emotions that are presenting.  I miss you, Mom.

You are my angel and my light.  God bless you, mom.

Today is no better than yesterday, but I know that you would tell me to press on with my life and to enjoy my freedom.  This freedom without you is like traveling in the Sahara without a guide.  I am barely becoming aware of what it will mean to not have you in my life. I went to church today, and prayed to hear your voice, and I did.  You told me, "Mija, I love you.  You will be alright, because I am alright. Now finish what we started."  Tears still stream down my face, not one day goes by without this sorrow.  It will be challenging to repurpose my life without you, but I know that is what you would want me to do.  Life continues to be gray, no longer a prism of colors you once occupied.  I miss you, mom.

Mom.  The days continue to grow heavy and I still do not feel the sun.  I miss your touch, your hands, your laugh, your embrace I once called home. There is a desert where my heart was, and a drought where tears once flowed.  There is no deeper heartbreak than knowing your sacred soul has parted and I am now alone.  I miss you, Mom.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Marie, I will miss your sweet, kind smile.  You were so strong for so long.  Rest in peace sweetheart.
