On Thursday, February 23, 2023, Michael Ramirez, loving husband, father of five children, and grandfather of four grandchildren (dogs not included), passed away at the age of 61. Michael was born in El Paso, Texas to Graciela and Carlos Ramirez. He achieved his GED Certification long after sending his children off for their educations, however this achievement was for him and his parents. Everyone knew, if you had an idea, he could build it.
Michael married Sylvia in September of 1993 after meeting her children Robert and Virginia while working at his repair ship. They would go on to have two daughters, Kristin and Jenna, and a son, Michael Anthony. He could often be found either under one of his family members’ car or on the field. He was well known as a baseball/softball dad, band dad and most recently a baseball and football grandpa.
Michael worked for years building race cars, repairing and operating forklifts, fixing cars as a mechanic and maintaining schools in a directorship position. He loved to sketch. You could often find his talents displayed in a last minute requested science or art project from one of his loving children (hey, he would win too).
He loved riding his motorcycle, jamming to rock music, cooking ribs on his oil-drum grill, and was an avid tool collector (despite Sylvia’s many protests). His greatest passion was watching his children succeed in life, and most recently, watching his grandchildren participate in the sport of their choosing. Mike was known for his quick wit, love for the Cleveland Indians, love of the Raiders (Not the Vegas ones), off-the-cuff sense of humor, infectious smile, and love for his family.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Graciela, and his father, Carlos. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, his five children, Virginia (Isaac), Robert, Kristin, Jenna and Michael Anthony. Surviving grandchildren include Isaac, Giovani, Nolan and Parker (with grand-dogs: Padme, Solo, Buddy, Bo and Thor, and grand-cats Nala and Peesha-Peesha Cat).
Michael is also survived by siblings Carlos, Cecilia, Ernesto, Linda, Yvette and Scott, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who all loved him to no end. Mike’s surviving family includes work families from Southwest Freightliner's, Don Davis Auto, Dicky’s Auto Racing, Toyota Lift, Ysleta Independent School District, Broker’s Logistics and FMH Material Handling Solutions.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ramsey Hazboun (and staff), Dr. Monica Diaz (and staff), Dr. Hahn (and staff), Dr. Estrada, and the staff at the Hospitals of Providence (especially Ms. Amelia, Ms. Abby and Joe) for the most wonderful and compassionate care you provided while helping Michael fight as hard as he could.
Visitation will be held on March 12th, 2023 at Hillcrest Funeral Home (1060 N Carolina Drive) from 5:00PM to 9:00PM, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will be at St. Mark Catholic Church (11700 Pebble Hills) at 12:00PM with burial to follow at Evergreen East Cemetery (12400 Montana).
