

Mildred Elsie Shafer Sanders died on September 25, 2015, in El Paso at the age of 105. Millie was born July 8, 1910 in Saint Johns, KS to Leonard Newton Shafer and Bessie Smith Shafer. She moved to Tornillo, Texas on April 1, 1920, where she graduated from high school. Millie attained a BS from University of Texas and MA from Texas Women’s University. She taught in various schools in west Texas, including Tornillo, Fabens, Clint, Wink and Pecos. In 1948 Millie married A.R. (Dick) Sanders who preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Veva Rigsby, Lucille (Sis) Crider, and L.P. (Spec) Shafer, and her nephews, Gail (Buster) Hendricks and Philip Shafer. Millie is survived by her step daughter, Trish Stea, nieces Claudia Rigsby and Sue Lovelady Hendricks, nephew, Dean Crider, and dear friends, Suzie & Bill Lovelady, Michael Doherty, and Isela DeLara.
Millie was Past Worthy Matron of Fabens Chapter of Eastern Star and member of Woodbine Chapter in El Paso, Fabens United Methodist Church, Kappa Delta Sorority, Retired Teachers, Ysleta Woman's Club and numerous organizations in the Valley and in El Paso.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 5 to 9 PM at Harding-Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home, 320 Montana Ave. Graveside Service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015, at 11:30 AM, at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
