

PAUL J. STRELZIN, “The Strelz” passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 27, 2013. He was 75 years old. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he chose to make El Paso his home. Paul proudly served his country in the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment. He became an influential educator, sports announcer, radio host, and community activist. He received numerous recognitions and honors including a resolution in the Texas House of Representatives, and induction into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. His greatest achievements however, were being a loving brother, a wonderful husband, an incredible father, and an amazing grandfather. His larger than life persona and his voice could be felt everywhere he went, yet he had a unique way of making everyone with whom he came in contact feel significant. "The Strelz's" personality will endure through the infinite people he has influenced, and the impact he had on our lives will be felt forever. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Darlyne Strelzin; his three daughters, Sandra Strelzin Lewis and husband Tommy, Sara McCleskey and husband Chad, and Laura Strelzin; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Lewis, Natalie Lewis, Grant McCleskey, and Kinley McCleskey; his sisters, Lynn Strelzin Pollock, Janice Vanderputten, and Adrienne Hermann; his brother, Raymond Erlichman; his children from his previous marriage, Jeffery Strelzin and wife Andrea, and Jennifer Strelzin Frost and husband Bill, and their children Spencer Frost and Paige Frost; extended family members; and countless friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013, 10:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 4900 McNutt Rd, Santa Teresa, NM 88008.
Active Pallbearers will be: Andy Avila, Roldan Chavez, Steve Kaplowitz, Brian Kennedy, Kevin Lovell, Armando Medina, Jim Nardone and Larry Vucan. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ira Batt, Julius Lowenberg, Tom Lewis and Jim Paul.
