

Pete Castro entered eternal life on January 4, 2015 surrounded by loving family and friends. Pete was born in El Paso, Texas on July 22, 1944 to Pedro and Matilde Castro. He is preceded by parents, loving aunt and uncle Josefa (Pepa) Lazos, Isidro (Chilo) Orozco, and brother Juan Castro. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 yrs. Emma, daughters Imelda Thompson (Mike) and Terry Castro. Also survived by the joys of his life, grandchildren Chynna and Ethan Thompson. Mourning his loss are brothers George (Nena), Eddie (Christina), Manuel Castro and good friend Lionel Nava. Pete is also survived by many nephews, nieces, colleagues, and friends. Pete attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963. He earned his university degree from UTEP in 1970. He began a long and successful career with Y.I.S.D. in 1970. A classroom teacher at first Pete rose to a principalship position at various schools in the district. He was a much beloved administrator and colleague. Pete loved to travel, He and Emma visited many places near and far. His last vacation was to Mt. Rushmore in 2014. Another of Pete’s passions was having breakfast or lunch with family and friends at various restaurants. A role model as husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, colleague and friend- we could not have asked for much more. We were blessed to have you in our lives. Your departure leaves much sadness in our heart. We rejoice that you’re reunited with those who left earlier and that your suffering has ended. You were a compassionate man who gave much and asked for little in return. You spoke with a soft yet firm voice. You were a decent man who lived an exemplary life. May you rest in peace. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm on Wednesday January 7, 2015 at Hillcrest Funeral Home with Vigil service at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 8, 2015 at 1pm at St. Raphael Catholic Church.Interment to follow at Evergreen East. Pallbearers will be George Castro Jr., Jaime Castro, Adrian Castro, Paul Castro, Lionel Nava, and Mike Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be George Castro Sr., Eddie Castro, Manuel Castro, and Mars Castro. Services are entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N. Carolina 598-3332.
