June 23, 1947 – November 7, 2025
El Paso, Texas
Phyllis Carol Davis, 78, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 23, 1947, in Washington, D.C., Phyllis was the eldest of ten children and grew up in Vienna, Virginia. She graduated from James Madison High School in 1965 and went on to attend the School of Nursing at Philadelphia General Hospital (PGH), where she graduated in 1968 as the recipient of the Gold Medal Award for top student in her class.
Following graduation, she began her nursing career at PGH, where she met and later married Harry E. Davis II, M.D. (“Pete”) on June 7, 1969. During the Vietnam War, Dr. Davis was drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the 11th Evacuation Hospital in Pusan, Korea, where Phyllis served alongside him as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. When the couple was later stationed at Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington, Phyllis honorably completed her service as a First Lieutenant.
The Davis family welcomed two sons: Michael Christopher (born 1972 at Madigan) and Bryan Matthew (born 1975 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center). Their military journey took them to
assignments in Washington, D.C., Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Bremerhaven, Germany, and ultimately El Paso, Texas — the place they would call home.
Once her sons were grown, Phyllis returned to school, earning her Bachelor of Business Administration degree with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1994.
In 1990, Phyllis was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the next 35 years, she faced her illness with extraordinary grace and courage while dedicating herself to supporting others facing the
same battle. She was deeply involved in advocacy and patient support initiatives to advance cancer care in the El Paso community, including serving on the Fox Cancer Center
Patient-Centric Committee.
Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Dr. Harry E. “Pete” Davis II; her sons Michael and Bryan; and her beloved grandchildren Ayden, Julien, Brooke, Ashton, and Mikayla.
She will be remembered for her kind spirit, unwavering strength, and deep love for her family.
