NIETO, Ramon (Mony) Sr., age 94, entered eternal rest and left to be with our Lord on February 10, 2026. He was a former resident of Smeltertown, Texas. Ramon was preceded in death by his beloved wife Teresa D. Nieto and his son Ramon “Winky” Nieto Jr., his parents Jose Nieto and Mercedes M. Nieto, his brothers Manuel “Hoover” Gutierrez and Jose Nieto, and his sisters Ofelia Cruz and Eustolia Fierro.
Ramon is survived by his loving children, daughter Irma Nieto and son Robert Nieto (Sylvia), the best grandchildren in the whole wide world Kristin S. Yanez (Jesus), Robert R. Nieto and Cristana A. Nieto, and his treasured great-grandchildren Angelique N. Yanez (Isaac), Brandon A. Yanez, Jennifer L. Yanez, Alisandra A. Yanez and Sarahi I. Yanez, and numerous relatives.
Ramon was employed by the Fort Bliss Civil Service and El Paso Independent and Canutillo School Districts. An avid football fan, his #1 team was the Dallas Cowboys and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. His favorite color was blue. Ramon could be found smoking a good cigar, singing, dancing, working on vehicles, watching his favorite western movies, and reading western novels. He was also a dedicated parishioner of Holy Family Parish. He was a proud descendant of Smeltertown and enjoyed telling stories of his time growing up there. Family or friend, Ramon would always make time to help anyone in need.
A proud veteran, he especially enjoyed reminiscing about all his years in the service, including the Army, Air Force, and Texas Army National Guard.
Visitation will be held on March 2, 2026, at Martin Funeral Home (West) from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary service at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on March 3, 2026, at Holy Family Parish (900 W. Missouri Ave.) at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
Those assisting our family in taking Ramon to his final resting place as pallbearers: Robert Nieto, Robert R. Nieto, Jesus A. Yanez, Brandon A. Yanez, Benjamin Ontiveros Jr., and Jim Delgado. Honorary pallbearers: Henry Delgado and Frank Nieto.
