I was thinking of my dear friend out of the blue and just found out he is no longer with us. I used to work at Blimpie back in 1999 and Ray was often assigned to duty there. He was genuinely a great person who wanted the best for everyone. I became a police officer because of him and honestly, I went back to college and became everything I wanted to be because he said I could and I should.  I will miss my friend and  I am glad I got to speak to him before all of this. Rest in peace old friend.

I met Ray briefly while I was a Reserve Deputy between 2010 to 2016. I recall him being a hard worker out in the upper valley.  He took his profession seriously at all times. I also had an opportunity to talk to Ray when he did a short stint working at Lowes. We shared our shortcomings and we shared about those who were there for you and those that turned their backs during times of hardships.  We talked about faith and never losing faith. May you Rest in Peace and may God Bless your family and friends.

I worked with Ray at the Sheriff’s Department and could not say enough good things about him. He was such a kind person and a good partner. I would like to express my most heartfelt condolences to his family and all who knew and worked with him.

We do not know why things happen, but I only have good memories of Ray. He used to do security with us at the truckstop in Vinton, and everyone could talk to him. He was a down to earth kind of guy, and he treated you as a friend.

I remember specifically how he'd run off the drunks that were causing problems, so they knew not to go to our store if he was there. 

One time the cashier's would joke around with him announcing a "Code Red" on the intercom, just to see what he'd do. And like clockwork, Ray ran in the store thinking it was an actual emergency. They got a good laugh with him.

After all that Ray had been through, I am especially proud to know he made the decision to follow the ways of God, which is the best decision anyone can make. 

And though I'm deeply saddened by the loss, I have the hope that he's in the Presence of the Lord. May God continue to strengthen every member of the family, and I ask that you carry the good memories of Ray with you.

It is with a very heavy heart that I give my condolences to Jannie the family for such a tremendous loss. In my years of writing to Ray in our letters he always  placed Jannie as his number one priority and spoke of what a strong Mom he had. Ray was so caring, he gave his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was so knowledgable in the word and we always shared our views on scripture.  He gave 17 yrs of his life as a deputy and loved his job. Ray is in heaven now with ETERNAL Life with family and friends where there is peace of mind and no illness but joy . Thank you Ray for your uplifing letters and especially for bringing your beautiful mother into my life where she continues to be an inspiration to myself and my sons. My condolences to Ray’s family, he was a good man and a damn good officer! God bless brother!

Ray was always one to take responsibility for his actions and was instrumental in assisting newly hired Detention Officers thru their 6 month probationary period. I grew to enjoy his witty comments and laughter in challenging moments dealing in our sometimes difficult situations. Forever a friend and brother in arms. Rest in Eternal Peace  my friend.

Oh cousin I was waiting for you to come home to see you, but never like this. I'm so heartbroken and I am so sad. I will love and miss you forever.
