

Robert Joseph O'Brien passed away October 7th, 2014 surrounded by his family near and far, embraced in love after a lengthy illness. Bob was born in San Francisco, Ca. He served in the US Air Force during Korea. While stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he met the love of his life, his wife Jeanne. Together, they raised their 5 children - Kathleen nee Kathi (Don) David, Kevin, Kenny (Angelica), Kimberly (Ron) Hammel, and Kellee (Bill) Harrigan. Bob retired in El Paso after over 30 years in the tire industry. The last twenty years, he was a proud Goodyear Area Manager. He loved to travel. His favorite place was Venice, Italy and his home town San Francisco. Bob was like a kid during family reunion trips to Disneyland with his grandchildren and children. Bob was a lifelong sports fanatic. He even understood curling. He was a consummate expert on Fantasy Football and Baseball. As a native San Franciscan, his favorite teams were the SF Giants and the 49ers. As an adopted Texan, he loved his Texas Rangers. Now he can follow his beloved teams from the sky box seats with his dad, Jim and brother, Jimmy. He is preceded in death by his parents: James and Anne O'Brien; his in-laws: James and Mary DeGregori; brother: Harold and brother and sister in-law: Jimmy and Mary O'Brien and sister: Katherine. In addition to his wife of 60 years and his 5 children, Bob is survived by his brother and sister in-law: Russell and Joan O'Brien, his brother in-law and sister in-law: Thomas and Gail DeGregori. He will forever watch over his 9 grandchildren- Nathan (Tesha) Freeman, Daniel (Amber) Freeman, Brittney David, Ariel, Morgan, Marshal, Arianna and Mason Hammel, and Danielle Harrigan. He also leaves his 5 nephews: Pat, Mike and Dan O'Brien and James and Roger DeGregori; and 4 nieces: Laura Walker, Leslie O'Brien, Maureen Casassa and Alice Morales. Bob loved his furry grand-doggies as well Papo, Sasha and Casey O'Brien. We are so comforted by the legacy of love, of family our amazing husband, brother, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather leave us. We know he was greeted by his family waiting for him and most importantly by his precious dogs, Goldie and Lulu, who left us early and met dad in Heaven. As you took your last breath here on earth, we know you took a big deep breath in Heaven- whole and healed. Rest well and watch over us. We love you! Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Friday, October 10, 2014 at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church.
