He was born on January 21, 1936 in El Paso,Tx
Son of Felix and Ofelia Barrón. He’s the brother of Alfonso (deceased), sisters Maria Limas and Dolores.
He attended Bowie High School, El Paso Tech schools and was in the Navy. His hobbies at the time were riding motorcycles and boxing. He at one time after work, sped his motorcycle to Juarez and won a motorcycle race bringing back a trophy as proof. He sparred one time with the great National Golden Glove Champion Pete Melendez. Melendez asked him to hit him with his best shot and He did knocking Melendez down (temporarily).
He and his brother were both altar boys at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown El Paso,
and early age, since their uncle was GM of the Plaza Theater, they worked cleaning the theater after school. The bonus was finding money in the seats. Later, he worked at the Hilton hotel downtown parking cars and Welch’s supermarket.
After his marriage to Maria Barron, he worked for Minute Market convenience stores for 20 years. In between, he worked the fields of California-changing water pipe lines, hauling hay, and driving field trucks with his brother in laws. Other part time professions were private investigator, pest exterminator, played bass and sang in a band. He was a man of many hats, but In 1976, he bought a store and named it Barrón’s Superette. He sold the store to his son Robert and in 1986, he opened another store in central El Paso called
Barrón’s Shop-n-Go. In 2005, he sold his store and retired and returned to Barrón’s Superette working part time until the age of 80.
He is survived by his beloved wife Maria de Jesus Barron Arias, sons Robert and wife Gloria, Richard Felix and daughter Debbie and husband Matthew Quinlan. His grandchildren: Robert III, Jacob, Loni, Brandon, and Garrett Zalokar. He also had 9 great-children.
His love for his family, Dallas Cowboys, music, singing, playing guitar, and dancing was his passion. We cannot forget his singing in particular. He sang at many weddings as a guest and made sure everyone called him Bobby Bumper in reference to Freddy Fender, his idol! He met Freddy Fender one time and after hearing about naming himself Bobby Bumper, Freddy gave him his blessings to use Bobby Bumper. It made him whole!
May the Lord receive him in his arms and allow him to sing and play his guitar for the Lord’s Glory! He lived his life on earth to the fullest!
