Roberto Barrera Gonzales

After a sudden battle with spinal cancer and complications resulting from Agent Orange exposure, our beloved big brother, Roberto Barrera Gonzales, was called home by the Lord. Surrounded by loved ones in his own home, Beto passed peacefully into the arms of God on Wednesday, September 24th. He was cherished not only as the best brother anyone could wish for, but also as a devoted caregiver to each of us. Whether serving as our in-house handyman or helping us through difficult situations, Beto was always ready to lend a hand—not just to family, but to his neighbors as well.

Beto was a valued member of the Jefferson Class of 1967 and will be deeply missed by his many friends. His commitment to service was evident in his 29-year tenure with the El Paso Police Department. In honor of his service, his funeral motorcade will be led by a contingent of ‘brothers’ from the EPPD, and the Army honor guard will pay tribute to him at his final resting place, Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Alfonso Chavez, who was truly an angel sent to us. Dr. Chavez provided hope and worked tirelessly to support our brother during his illness. We are also grateful to the Telemetry nurses at Del Sol Hospital — Rebecca Marroquin, Jacob Gonzales and Omar Garcia — whose professionalism, dedication, and commitment ensured that our beloved brother received exceptional care throughout his ordeal.

Beto is survived by the love of his live, Olivia Gutierrez. Sisters: Gloria Barragán and Connie Devenger. Nieces: Julie Cristina Barragán, Derek & Michelle Nielson.
