Jeanette Margie Patschke Dube, age 86, fell asleep in Jesus and entered eternal glory with God the Holy Trinity in Heaven on May 18, 2026. She was the firstborn child to Alvin and Margaret (Heintze) Patschke on June 24, 1939, at their home in Thorndale, Texas. She was born again into God’s Kingdom through Holy Baptism as an infant and later confirmed her Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. Jeanette attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Thrall High School. She later received her GED at Taylor Night School.
Jeanette met David John Dube at a Walther League gathering at her aunt’s house in Taylor, Texas. They were united in Holy Matrimony on December 26, 1960, while David was on leave from the Navy. After a short honeymoon to Giddings, where they visited some family, they left on New Year’s Day for California, where David was stationed. Jeanette was nine months pregnant with their first child when David was about to head overseas for his second tour, so he drove Jeanette back to her parents in Thorndale. Velvet Kim was born while he was crossing the ocean when the Red Cross notified him of her birth. When David returned, he brought Jeanette and Velvet back to California with him, where he was stationed.
After David was honorably discharged from the Navy, they moved back to Texas and settled down in Giddings, where Jeanette became a stay-at-home wife and mother. They welcomed Jed Keith in 1963 and Douglas Kurt in 1965. They rented the Dube Ranch house off of 290 before buying David’s family home, and moved it to a parcel on his parents’ property that they bought from them. Then, Roger Kelly made his debut in 1974. After their house burned down in 1982, they moved into David’s parents’ vacant house until both went into the Elgin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in December 2023.
Jeanette’s jobs over the years included working for Elgin Butler Brick Yard, babysitting, housecleaning, and family caretaking. In Jeanette’s younger years, she enjoyed fishing on the river and taking trips with her family and friends. Jeanette liked riding around the farm in their Kubota, checking on their cattle, and going fishing with the grandkids. She was asked to come up with a boy’s name for the last calf born. It was hard for her to talk at this time, so she kept saying, “I don’t know.” After trying to prompt her to come up with a name, she kept saying, “I don’t know,” so the calf’s name is now “IDK” for “I Don’t Know.” Jeanette also enjoyed attending her grandkids’ many church, school, and extracurricular activities. Jeanette volunteered at the McDade Watermelon Festival for many years. David and Jeanette were the grand marshals for the 2004 McDade Watermelon Festival Parade. She was also a member of the McDade Ladies VFW and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elgin.
Jeanette also enjoyed seek and find word puzzles, coloring, and was just getting into painting. She also loved watching the birds at the bird feeders, playing chickenfoot and bingo, which was the last thing she enjoyed. Jeanette never met a stranger, and she was the social butterfly at the Elgin Nursing Home. Her favorite words were “I Love You” to everyone she met, coming and going. Jeanette loved helping other residents out, would help decorate for the holidays, and tend to her little garden from which she got a few veggies. She also loved doing activities with Shirley Richburg, her roommate and one of her best friends. Their sisterhood was very special as Shirley moved in with Jeanette after David passed.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; brother, Alvin Patschke; brother-in-law, Larry Rogers; brother(s)- and sister(s)-in-law Wallace and Correen Dube, and Alfred Jr. and Gene Dube.
