

Thomas Russell Allen, a dedicated Navy veteran, skilled technician, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026. Born on June 26, 1944, Tom, the only son fo Thomas Buford Allen and Gertrude V. Capron, led a life marked by service, hard work, and devotion to his loved ones and community.
Tom's early years were defined by his commitment to his country. After graduating from high school, he proudly served as a Radar Technician in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His time in service was a testament to his resilience and steadfast dedication. Upon completing his military service, Tom applied his technical skills to work as a self-employed ATM repairman, showcasing his resourcefulness and adaptability.
A lifelong learner, Tom was an Honors graduate of the National Institute of Technology. His education propelled him to a fulfilling career with National Instruments in Austin, where he worked diligently until his retirement. Tom’s professional journey reflected his expertise and unwavering work ethic.
For the past 30 years, Tom made his home in Elgin, becoming an integral part of the community. As a proud veteran, he was a dedicated member of the Elgin Veterans of Foreign Wars post from nearly the moment he arrived, cherishing the camaraderie and fellowship it offered.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Tom had a passion for dogs. He devoted many years to showing dogs at American Kennel Club (AKC) events, proudly guiding several of his dogs to AKC championships. This hobby was a significant and joyful part of his life.
Tom is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy Allen; son, Thomas R. Allen II; daughters, Charlotte and Rebecca; sisters, Jessie Leigh, Sue, Carol, Maureen, and Patricia; grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia, and his parents, Thomas Buford Allen and Gertrude V. Capron.
His family and community remember Tom not only for his varied accomplishments and service but for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and the family who held him dear.
Tom's wish was to be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
