
She was a native of Grayson County, Virginia, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a retired seamstress at Rider's Clothing, loved flowers and was a great gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus W. Mitchell; parents, Stark W. and Lou Ellen Hash Phipps; six brothers, Robert, Bill, Stuart, Brice, Add, and Letcher Phipps; two sisters, Arleen Cox and Susie Hines; and one grandchild, Michael Douglas "Mickey" Mitchell.
She is survived by two children, Douglas Eric (Marie) Mitchell of Elizabethtown and Nona Melissa (Jack) Rickett of Cave City; two brothers, Tom and Sam Phipps of Virginia; two sisters, Lucy Wheatley and Ruby Wagner of Virginia; four grandchildren, Emily and Adam Rickett, Lisa Wiatr Chelf, and Paul Engler; and two great grandchildren, Mady Wiatr and Deacon Chelf.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Knight officiating. Burial follows at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and continues after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
