
She was the daughter of Max Richard Welk and Frieda Elisabeth Klamke Welk of Berlin, Germany. Helga was born in Berlin on Sept. 23, 1936.
Helga will be remembered for her genuine kindness and her ability to see the goodness in each person she encountered. She was a devoted and faithful wife, a loving mother and a true friend. Helga was known for her baking skills, especially when it came to delicious cakes.
Helga is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph Claude Alvey; her daughter, Patricia (Paul) Kirchner; a grandson, David (Chelsea) Kirchner; three granddaughters, Claire E. Bartlett, Emma S. Alvey and Katherine M. Alvey;, and five great-grandchildren, Avery Caudill, Ronan Caudill, Donovan Caudill, Elijah Kirchner and Angela H. Kirchner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gunther Welk and Gerhard Welk; her sister, Ursula Ziegenfuss; her son, Robert J. Alvey; and granddaughter, Angela E. Kirchner.
Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, be at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Mass follows at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Elizabethtown, followed by burial in Fort Knox Veterans Cemetery.
