He was born in Vine Grove on February 20, 1932, to the late Elbert Goldsmith and Margurite Shumate Irwin. After his service in the United States Air Force, Jim followed his calling to be a farmer. Through God’s leadership, hard work, and determination, the Goldsmith Family Farm flourished growing various crops, operating a successful dairy, and later raising sheep. Along with being a humble steward of the land, he spent his life sharing his faith in Christ by serving as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and a Gideon.
He is preceded in death by wife of seventy-years, Hannah Hayden Goldsmith.
He is survived by his daughters Tina Shearon; Edwina Smith (Chuck); Tracie Oliver (Eric) and a son, James E. Goldsmith, Jr. (Sharon) and 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
His funeral is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with visitation from 11:00 until 2:00 p.m.
Pastors Eric Oliver and Mike Williams will be officiating the service.
