Sharad Patel

Dr. Patel lived life on his own terms. He loved reading and discussing philosophy, politics, and gardening, and he never stopped questioning the world around him. He had a sharp mind, a curious spirit, and a deep appreciation for meaningful conversation. He could make a chicken curry that would bring tears to your eyes —while psychoanalyzing you at the same time.

As a psychiatrist, Dr. Patel dedicated his life to caring for others with intelligence, honesty, and compassion. He believed deeply in living a meaningful and purposeful life, often sharing one of his favorite sayings: “Learn to love to work, and never do a job halfway.” He lived those words every day, bringing passion and commitment to everything he did.

He was someone who never gave up. He was both brave and gentle, opinionated yet deeply caring and mind bogglingly resilient. Outside of medicine, Sharad found peace in gardening, meditation, and the simple beauty of everyday life. He loved watching things grow — whether in his garden, within his family, or in the people he helped guide throughout his life.

To his family, he was a steady source of strength, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love. His presence was grounding, his laughter unforgettable, and his lessons enduring.

Sharad is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kalpna Patel; daughters, Dr. Dimpi Patel and Radhika Patel Jonas; his cherished grandson, Jag "Juju" Jonas; and his brother, Ramesh Patel.

Sharad was preceded in death by his brother, Chiman Patel, and his sister, Aruna Patel.

Dr. Sharad Patel’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his spirit, intellect, humility, and generous heart. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be at the Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, Ky. on Saturday, May 16th from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
