

Vernon Wright Hatter, age 97, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky died Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born to Coleman and Ruby Hatter (Gilpin) on May 2, 1928, in Liberty, Kentucky. He proudly worked at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati for 38 years as a pipefitter. He served in the US Army in the 4th Infantry’s Eighth Regimental Combat Team from October 17, 1950, to October 16, 1952, in Germany. He married Jeanette Hatter (Taylor) on February 18, 1953.
He is survived by one son Terry Hatter and two daughters Denise Maginnis and husband Abbot of Lebanon Junction, Kentucky and Donna Gilley and husband Vernon of Inverness, Florida. He is survived by six grandchildren, Patrick Maginnis and wife Sharon, Siobhan Bohannon (Maginnis) and husband James, Kevin Maginnis and wife Kyla, Courtney Hatter (Kinney), Steven Taylor and Alex Gilley. He is survived by ten great grandchildren, Michael Bohannon, Brody Bohannon, Ava Bohannon, and Connor Bohannon, Scarlett Kinney, Kaitlyn and Caleb Maginnis, Sky, Mira and Reya Maginnis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Jeanette Hatter, his parents Coleman and Ruby Gilpin Hatter (Gilpin), his four sisters Maurine Ellison, Melenee Roberts, Vell Snyder, Josephine Henderson, and three brothers Melvin, Herman, and Carlos Hatter.
He loved bowling, corn hole, games and puzzles, gardening and having fun with his family and friends. He was well loved by all that knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 10am - 1pm at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, KY. Service will be at 1pm at Brown. Burial will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Spring Grove Cemetery at 11:30am.
