

Walter enlisted in the United States Army in 1946, and served in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Master Sergeant E-8. Walter’s last tour of duty was Cu Chi Vietnam, where he served under the 25th Infantry Division, Headquarters Supply and Transport. Master SGT Jackson also served as the Cu Chi Base Security Officer. Master SGT Jackson was awarded the following honors: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Walter retired from the US Army in 1968. He spent the next 20 years working for General Electric Appliance Park and running a farming operation in Rineyville.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jackson, Verge Conley Jackson; his wife, Terri E. Jackson; sisters, Evelyne Wells and June Chandler; granddaughter Alanna Jackson; brothers Wendell, Robert, James, Walter-Ray, and Danny Jackson.
Walter is survived by his beloved children Shirley Holliday, James Jackson, and Linda Mahoney; grandchildren, Brent Holliday, Branden Vincent, Emily Quillen, John Holliday, and Quinn Jackson; five great and five great-great grandchildren.
Walter was an avid fisherman and his loved ones will remember his love for friends and family, his incredible sense of humor, his ability to tell stories, and a passion for Western books and movies.
A service honoring Walter’s life will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 9 am. Burial will immediately follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September, 25, 2024 from 4-8 p.m.
