

Born in Alabama in 1926, William served his country for twenty-four years as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a Veteran of three wars, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Following his military retirement, William founded the Cox Oil Company. Later, he worked as a realtor with Caldwell Banker and Schuler-Bauer, until his retirement six years ago.
He was a long time member of Severns Valley Baptist Church and Cecilia Baptist Church, where he served his Lord as a deacon, church treasurer, and Sunday school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Theresa Schenkel Cox; and his eldest son, Ralph William Cox.
Survivors include one son, Gary (Candace) Cox of Las Vegas; one daughter, JoAnne Cox of Elizabethtown; one daughter-in-law, Patty Cox of Frisco, TX; four grandchildren, Christopher (Leiann) Cox of Frisco, TX, Emily and Connor Cox of Las Vegas, and Brandon Strassell of Elizabethtown; and two special great- grandchildren, Makayla and Caden Cox of Frisco, TX. William is also survived by his loving companion, Joyce Bennett.
The funeral is Monday, August 19, 2024 at 9 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, presided by Pastor Emory Riley.
Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hosparus Health of Central Kentucky or Honor Flight Bluegrass.
