

She was a native of Hardin County and a member of St. John Catholic Church, and the Hardin County Homemakers. Her humor and positive attitude were critical in successfully adjusting to the changing norms and standards over seven decades of adult life. She supported her husband, Hilary, in developing one of the top dairy farms in Kentucky. In early years, she prepared meals for up to a dozen field hands with four young children under foot. She quietly supported young people in her community when they encountered serious problems. With a life well lived she served as a role model to her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Hilary Skees; two infant daughters Mary Anne and Rebecca Anne; her parents, Joseph Guy and Virginia Pate Mattingly; three brothers, Joseph Guy Mattingly Jr., Raeburn Mattingly and Aubin Mattingly and one sister, Nada Howell.
She is survived by one sister, Diane (Oren) Dulaney; four daughters: Cathy Yates, Connie Skees, and Tammy Fulkerson of Rineyville, Sharon (Keith) Arnold of Lexington; one son: Jerry Skees (Cathy Coakley) of Prospect; ten grandchildren: Jeffrey Bewley (Christa Stultz) of Elizabethtown, Michelle (Sonnie) Elliott of Elizabethtown, Julie (Stephen) Schroeder of South Carolina, Marcia (Taylor) Rapchak of Pennsylvania, Jennifer Skees (Mikel Burton) of North Carolina, Brandon Yates of Brandenburg, Daniel Arnold (Kelsey Minarik) of Winchester, Amy (Aaron) Fincher of Cecilia, Nathan Arnold (Rachel Francis) of Richmond, Ryan Fulkerson of Rineyville; nine great grandchildren, Sonnie Jr., Chauncey, Maddox, Paxton, Lexi Winona, Aurora, Iris, Evelynn, and Dean; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Father Jeff Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
