

Donald G. Berner DDS, 83, of Williamsburg died on Saturday march 12, 2011 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Detroit on November 1, 1927, the son of Carl and Edna (Chadwick) Berner. Don graduated from Catholic Central High School and attended the university of Detroit for both his undergraduate and Dental Schooling. Don had a scholarship for basketball and played on the All State Team. He loved the outdoors, was an avid boater, belonged to the Coast Guard Auxiliary, flew his own plane for 26 years, and enjoyed playing golf. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, attending since moving here in the 1960s. In 1995 he married Dr. Mary Kokosky, who survives. He is also survived by his children; Andrew Berner of Bronson MI, and Jomari (Tim) Young, of Glen Ellyn IL, four grandchildren; Victoria, Ellie, Drew, and Jake, along with his sister Patricia Norman of Williamsburg. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011, from 5 to 7 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 143 Charles St., Elk Rapids, Where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 7pm. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday beginning at 10 am. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 11am, with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding . Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in the spring. Memorials may be given in Dr. Berner’s name to the University of Detroit, Scholarship fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home, Elk Rapids.
