Evelyn A. Galbraith, 99, of Traverse City, passed away at Munson Hospice House on Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2018.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst, IL with Rev. Richard Wolf officiating.
Evelyn was born in Chicago, IL on October 10, 1918 to Norma and Clarence Johnson. On January 10, 1943, she married Ralph W. Galbraith, Jr. in Elmhurst, Illinois. Evelyn and her husband, an insurance manager, moved several times due to professional transfers from Kansas City, MO to Birmingham, MI and finally, to Naperville, IL. Evelyn worked at Edwards Hospital, Naperville, IL in the account billing department. After raising their family, Evelyn and Ralph retired to Fishtrap Lake, Wisconsin in 1980 and spent many years there on their beloved lake. She was an accomplished poet and had several pieces published in America At The Millennium. Their winter months were spent in Seminole, FL where they enjoyed an active social life. In 2011 Evelyn moved to Traverse City, MI to be near her family. Evelyn had been a resident of the Village of Bay Ridge since that time. Her last years were happy and peaceful. Evelyn was a friendly, outgoing person. She loved her family and she enjoyed the friendship of many.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons. Ralph (Kathleen) Galbraith of East Jordan, MI and Scott Galbraith of Bloomington, MN; two grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Galbraith and Melissa (Daniel) King; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Galbraith, Seth Galbraith and Boden King; three nephews, Warren (Barbara) Johnson, Roger (Carol) Johnson, and Donald (Lynn) Galbraith; two nieces, Patti (Bernard) Albaugh and Terri (Ron) McKinney; many grandnieces and grandnephews and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph in February 1992; her brother Clarence Johnson in 2013; her brother Warren L. Johnson in 1997. She was the last member of her immediate family.
