Alvin Addison was born on January 4, 1971, the youngest child of Bernie and Delores Addison. He spent his early years in Newark, New Jersey, growing up alongside his beloved brothers Vernard, Pierre, and Eric. From a young age, Alvin stood out for his bright mind, unshakable positivity, and boundless curiosity. He was affectionately described as a “little old man,” always in search of answers.
During his middle school years, Alvin lived in Colorado with his aunt and uncle, where he thrived both academically and athletically. At Hodgkins Middle School, he became an exceptional wrestler and embraced every new challenge with enthusiasm. He taught himself to ski in a single lesson and soon mastered the black diamond slopes. A dedicated volunteer, Alvin earned the respect of adults and peers alike through his generous spirit and willingness to help others.
Returning to New Jersey, Alvin graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth. He fulfilled his goal of enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he not only served in the gulf war, but also developed his love for aviation. He took immense pride in being one of the youngest crew chiefs deployed, sharpening his skills in aircraft maintenance and safety—skills that would become the foundation of a remarkable career. Alvin pursued a degree in Professional Aeronautics at Wilmington University and quickly rose through the ranks in the aviation industry. From a supervisor at U.S. Airways to a senior quality engineer at Aerotek, his journey culminated in his dream role as Director of Safety Certification and Engineering at WMATA. There, he brought over 30 years of aviation expertise to the transit industry. Like the true leader and mentor he was, Alvin ensured to bring others up with him, from mock interviews, to education guidance, to ensuring his team received the recognition they deserved. He left an impact, impression and big shoes to fill anywhere he went.
On October 15, 2015, Alvin married the love of his life, Jerry Girma Dubale, with whom he shared three children. Being a father, husband and family man was his most proud job, his face would light up when he spoke of them all, they were his pride and joy. With his wife Jerry he loved traveling the world, taking on home renovation projects and creating new traditions and memories to last a lifetime. Alvin was not just a husband, he was a best friend, a soul mate, the unwavering foundation of their home and a true patriarch of his family, His favorite reassurance: “Don’t worry about it, I got it.”
In his final days Alvin celebrated his life to the fullest. He finally took the long-awaited trip with his best friend of 22 years, Dan—moments filled with laughter and joy, a fitting tribute to a life well lived and earned.
Alvin departed this life on June 26, 2025, and was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vernard (Herlena Addison), Eric and daughter Alina. He is survived by his wife Jerry and his children Asia, Justin, Alvin, Aaliyah, Aden, Abriella, brother Pierre, and a host of family and friends.
