Barbara Ann Hill, age 88, of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 8, 2025 surrounded by family. Barbara was born Barbara Ann Connor in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on May 27,1936, to Elmer and Lily Mae Connor. At age 5, she moved with her family to Baltimore, Maryland where she lived until moving to Southern, Maryland.
Barbara was a very hardworking woman, sometimes holding two jobs at one time in order to raise and support her 3 children. In 1995 she retired from the MiniTec Corporation in Leonardtown, MD, to allow her the privilege of caring for her elderly mother. She saw this time with her mom as being some of the best days of her life.
She remained in her family’s home until 2018 when she moved to PA to be closer to her children. She spent these years shopping with her daughters and constantly preparing for her favorite holiday... Christmas! She would start wrapping before the summer started every year. Typically, if you caught her wrapping.. it was very likely she was wrapping for a Christmas two years in the future.
Did we mention that everything in her life revolved around her children? It did. She was always silently taking care of them. She believed, that if she had something then so did we. She always bought things in 4’s. If she found an item she thought she might like, than she wanted us to have it too. She filled freezers with meats and then when we visited, she transferred the meats to coolers for us to take home.
Clearly Barbara was generous to a fault. She was willing to share anything she had with anyone in need. If you complimented something she had, she either offered it to you or you would find one waiting for you when you visited next! She never really thought of herself, it was all about her family.
Finally, our Mother was by far a superstar in our world. She was there to talk with, cry with, laugh with and of course sit silently with during difficult times. We will miss her more than words can describe. Together, we will be forever grateful for the life we had with her and will cherish the memories made. To celebrate her life in a way that reflects her spirit, we encourage everyone to wear jeans in Barbara's memory.
Barbara is survived by her Loving Children and their spouses: Joyce and Sam Compton, Kathryn Shipley and Robert and Rosaria Davey; Dear Grandchildren and their spouses: Matthew (Michelle) Compton, Stacy Compton, William (Lisa) Davey, Amanda (Jeremy) McKee, Richard (Meaghan) Sturgeon an Emily Sturgeon; Cherished Great-grandchildren: Brandon Thomas, Leann Hood, Justin Hood, Mason McKee, Jordyn (Jared) Davey, Conner Compton, William (Brenna) Davey, Noah Davey, Lily Davey and Great Great-grandchildren: Jacob, Jay, Journey and Camden.
